How long do volunteers typically work at Centro Medico?

The length of stay depends on the type of volunteer. 4th year medical students and residents earning credit typically stay for 4 weeks. Specialists and attending physicians have stayed anywhere from 1 week to several months. 1st year medical students often join Centro Medico for the summer and non-medical volunteers stay anywhere between 3 weeks and 1 year or more.

Local Volunteers

Volunteers from the surrounding communities help keep Centro Medico clean and beautiful and also cook meals for our US volunteers.

There are also few local students who are training to be nursing assistants and have learned basic medical skills, such as taking vital signs and measuring blood glucose levels. One of our former nursing assistants is now in medical school and another is studying biochemistry.
